Eat Fat to Lose Fat

By Matt Holtom

There are good and bad in almost everything and nutritional fat is the same. People are advised through media and sources alike that all fats are potentially bad and the cause for the obesity problem in the UK and beyond. This is only partly true!

Yes, saturated fats are bad, but it's carbohydrates I believe are the real problem! More precisely, simple carbs or high glycemic carbs. Carbohydrates are the body's first fuel for energy, it's other factors which decide whether your body stores this energy for later use (converted to fat) or burns it.

To lose body fat you need the body to decide to burn... GOOD fats contribute to this deciding factor!

Some suggested sources of good fats/ oils are:

  • Fish oils - Omega 3 along with its many benefits to the body encourages insulin sensitivity

  • Coconut oil - stays stable at high temperatures when cooking with it

  • Natural nuts - nuts are rich in protein and good fats

  • Olive oil

  • Eggs (egg yolks)

  • Meat

Another reason for eating these fats:

  • Some vitamins are fat soluble such as A, D, E , K which means they need fat to be absorbed by the body.

  • Fats aren't all that bad and it is important to know the benefits. More importantly, the difference between the type of fats.

  • An essential point is that good fats will not work effectively on their own. An all round good nutritional lifestyle is needed.

  • Typically people that are on a lower carb intake lifestyle including plenty of good fats/ oils daily along with high protein tend to have a high success of achieving fat loss/toning goals!

That's why I say... EAT FAT TO LOSE FAT!
